0682345095 2017-07-24 Solution Mining Project No Violations Arrived on location on 07/24/2017 to meet with Mark Kurtz with Morton Salt and check on the well. A water truck had been brought in on Friday to suck the water off of the top of the well. Cement was noted to be ~5 below ground level and was solid, however gas bubbles were clearly noted in the trace amount of water remaining on top of the cement. A flange with an open valve on it will be placed over the well to prevent additional rainwater from going downhole while also allowing gas to vent. This issue was discussed with Andrew Adgate (DOGRM UIC), who will research well construction and work with Morton Salt to determine a plan for remediation.

Cement was noted to have fallen back to an indeterminate depth, and water in the casing was noted to be bubbling. Mark Kurtz with Morton Salt was notified of this issue and will have the water sucked out of the casing in order to determine cement top so that a plan forward can be determined. No other problems were noted at the time of the inspection.
