Inspections Performed

Inspection ID Inspection Category Inspection Date Inspection Type Inspection Result Inspection Comments
2577153 Primary Facility 2017-03-30 Routine/Complete Inspection No Violations Noted Site inspection on 3/30/2017 of the M Thompson #8 well, a conventional gas well identified in the Department's EFACTS database as having been spudded but not previously inspected by the Department.
Typical well setup with a production tubing string hung inside the 4 1/2" production casing. Wellhead plumbed to a production fluids separator, line drip, and orifice meter and chart recorder ahead of the valved riser to the 2" steel gathering pipeline. Well blowdown, fluids separator dump line, and line drip blowdown are plumbed to 2" steel line into the top of a 100 bbl. fiberglass produced fluids tank. Fluids tank spotted on a plywood base with no formal secondary containment. The tank appears sound with no defects or damage noted, and no visible indications of leakage or spillage observed. Produced fluids tank drain is valved shut with a threaded plug installed in the drain outlet. The tank appears empty or nearly so.
Location sited entirely on reclaimed bituminous mine spoil, and is stable w
2581387 Primary Facility 2017-04-11 Routine/Complete Inspection No Violations Noted Follow up site visit on 4/11/2017 at the M Thompson #8 (033-24808) conventional gas well, to review with ECA production personnel the conditions at the open annulus line described at the Department's 3/30/2017 site inspection.
At the 3/30/2017 inspection there was a small puddle (12" X12") of what appeared to be clay or gel at the outlet of a 2" valved annulus line of the well casing head. Trace water on the solids puddle was field tested, Spec. Cond.=224 microS/cm, no sheen.
Follow up meeting on location today. The 2" annulus line was confirmed based upon well records and visible observation to be connected to the annulus between the 9 5/8" surface casing and a 7" casing string. 7" casing string set when circulation was lost and 9 5/8" casing was set at 133' depth. The well operator confirmed that this subject annulus has not historically produced fluids or water discharge, and when the 2" annulus line was plugged and pressure gage installed the annulus built (0) psi pressure after (6) days.
