The Operators response received on 5/26/2017 indicates that the release was caused by a mist from the top of the tank, during the in inspection production fluid was observed at the bottom of the brine tank. The Operator response also indicates that PEAT, an absorbent material, was used to address the spill however no absorbent material was observed during the inspection.The Department recommends that the Operator follow the plan outlined in their Operator response. Additionally, the Department recommends the Operator remove the impacted soil.

During the inspection the area impacted by the release did not appear to be remediated. The Department observed production fluid on the ground near the brine tank. The brine tank appears to have a leak in the bottom of the tank and is no longer suitable to contain production fluid. The Department recommends Operator remediate the impacted area and remove, replace or repair the brine tank to prevent a release of production fluid.

Vegetative growth was visible on the impacted area. The brine tank was on site and tipped to prevent a release. The brine tank was not connected to the well apparatus. The Department recommends that the Operator evaluate the need for a brine tank and repair or replace the brine tank if the Operator determines that a brine tank should remain on site.
