1251918139 2012-07-02 The Division had received a complaint alleging the disruption of water well, which prompted the inspection of wells within 1/4 mile radius. The well was equipped and showed signs of production. Peatsorb was observed around the wellhead, due to a stuffing box leak (approx 3' x 3'). The tank battery location contained a total of (2) 100 bbl tanks inside an earthen dike. Pollution and contamination was observed at the 100 bbl oil tank location, which consisted of predominately oil stained ground covered with peatsorb near the steel transfer line to the 100 bbl saltwater tank (at lower elevation and also inside dike). A bare path from this oil tank lead to the 100 bbl saltwater tank location. Peatsorb had also been applied to this location, which had consisted of fresh oil stained ground surrounding half of this tank. There were no observed impacts to area outside of this earthen dike. An intermiitent stream located downhill from this tank battery location was also inspected and did not contain oil or stressed vegetation. A GPS reading was obtained and recorded for the well and tank battery locations. At 1:58 PM, I notified the well owner by cell phone and instructed him to remove all contaminated material. 9-1-07
