-1511669381 2015-03-17 I was onsite to conduct a follow-up status check to the oil spill on 3/16/2015. Remediation is going well. The pump truck was onsite in the morning skimming oil off the reservoirs created by the siphon dams. A sheen of oil could still be seen in the ditch and siphon dam reservoirs. Siphon dams installed on 3/16/2015 are working properly.
291839394 2015-03-16 I was called at 12:17 PM on 3/16/2015 by Joe Teppert of Enervest reporting that they had spill at the Smith #1 (34-029-20862-000) on 12th street in Knox Township, Columbiana County. He said an elbow on the separator dump line had blown and oil leaked down-hill across the lease road and into the farm field on the north side of the lease road and from there traveled via drain tile to the roadside ditch where is traveled north to a concrete drain basin. I arrived onsite at 12:53 PM. Joe Teppert, Dan Pahovey, and Brady Murphy of Envervest and John Rose and John Sanor of Rose Excavating were already onsite. At the separator, the broken elbow had already been fixed. Snow effected by the oil was removed and placed in the dike to be contained and later cleaned up. A small dike had been placed downhill of the separator to prevent further spread from the tank battery area. Very little oil observed in the farm field. Booms were already out in the roadside ditch. The oil travelled no further than the roadside ditch, with the concrete drainage basin already full of water and acting as a siphon dam. No oil observed on the east side of the road where the drainage culvert dumps out. Two siphon dams were placed in the ditch and working properly. Additional booms were placed at the separator dam to further prevent flow of oil. The spill was stopped and contained. Estimated volume released was 3 bbls of oil and travel approximately 1220
