Mr. Harer stated that the tank contains mud stored on the Storms Pad that potentially may have been used in the event anything happened to one of the wells during well stimulation procedures. Apparently there was concern the casing may give out on the well. There is about (280) barrels in the tank according to Mr. Harer. The pump aids in circulating the mud to prevent it from freezing. The mud has been circulating in the tank for a few weeks at this location and the pump runs (24) hours a day. There is also a heating system in place in the secondary containment system to prevent the mud from freezing. Mr. Harer also mentioned well stimulation procedures were shut down on the Storms Pad due to the mud freezing. |

A Notice of Termination was approved by the Department on 10/13/2015. There were two wells in production during the inspection. Both wells were labeled and no bubbling was observed in the well cellar. One Production tank and two GPUs were observed on site. The production tank did not have a containment structure surrounding it. The Department contacted Eric Hottenstein of Chesapeake. An area on the fill slope needed to be repaired and temporarily stabilized with mulch. The well pad has not been reduced in size, but PCSM has been addressed. There were 2 properly tagged Marcellus wells staged for production. The well cellars were filled with water; no bubbling was observed. There were 2 GPUs and 2 sand separators onsite and in secondary containment. A single fiberglass produced water tank was also onsite. There were some areas of ice on the pad surface. The area was greater than 70% vegetative cover and no E&S issues were observed. The infiltration area along the southeast edge of the pad was retaining some water and ice (Photo #1). This could be due to the frequent rainfall and colder temperatures. No violations were noted at the time of inspection. |
