Bottom went out of storage tank, probably 2/13/07 evening with freezing and thawing, lost between 3 and 12 bbl oil - I suspect closer to 10 bbl. Ran down hill about 400 but did not get into creek - within a foot of doing so. Reported 2/15/07 and inspected this day to find 5 dams had been placed down the hill where oil ran, had burned oil at a couple of the dams before I arrived. The oil went thru quite a stretch of woods and will take a while to complete clean-up - I would say. Fairly steep terrain - if they could wash hillside with a load of water next week when it thaws, that would help but too difficult to get big truck back there - not so much at top where tank was but very difficult at base of hill along the creek. Have worked steadily on it and have traps built, which is probably all they can do until thaws or a rain. Will continue to monitor, but dont believe they will get much oil back. Have set a new tank and are building a dike. MIKE - add to Bobbys bond. |

Tank has good IDs with permit no, good dike, oily mess inside dike area where pads have been put down. Oil and a little water still present, need to finish cleaning up. Looks like brine has gone down over the hill in the past - dead vegetation path. This well probably is Exempt Miss but still killed vegetation. Operator needs to finish cleaning up oil inside dike, place lime on the brine kill area, add well to bond. |
