2512463 Primary Facility 2016-08-19 Routine/Complete Inspection No Violations Noted Inspection of the Chapman Twp. Water Auth 1H well in Chapman Twp. Clinton County conducted August 19, 2016 at 12:30 pm. The well has no known operator and is on the DEP abandoned list. A nearby homeowner directed me to the well, which is on the North side of a trail behind the homes on the North side of Skunk Hollow Road. At the time of inspection; on the surface, the well had a top joint of 8 5/8” casing coming up just a few feet above ground. The casing was corroded with some pitting, and the top was ripped where the threads were. I detected no gas at all using Altair 5x gas meter, neither in the casing or on the backside of the casing at ground level. I dug up around the outside of the 8 5/8” and found no outer casing. I ran my tape measure in, tagged soft material about 6’ down. It was possibly cement with leaves that fell on top. The nearby homeowner, who was about 70, said the well has been there since he was a kid, and that he thought it was plugged. By looking at the well I would agree it was plugge
