| 1843587 | Primary Facility | 2009-11-05 | Routine/Complete Inspection | Violation(s) Noted | PC (Phillips Exploration) had reported a brine release/fire (~500gals) on11-5-09 which occurred 11- 04-09 at approx. 9:00am at this site. At the time of inspection, the site had been secured, well was in production. The brine tank was replaced, as well as any production equipment that was destroyed by the fire. The release remnants were placed (contaminated soils/absorbent materials and brine tank) into a lined pit surrounded by a drainage ditch. All disturbed areas had been fertilized and reseeded. PC had plans to place the contaminants in a lined dumpster until permanent disposal could be conducted. the spill/fire was contained and restoration measures were taken,but violations will be issued for failure to report release in required timeframe, as well as discharge of brine. According to PC, the fire and release were caused by static electricity that produced a spark during dumping of the well separator which ignited the brine tank and well regulator causing an explosion/fire. |
