Digging was done at the base of the vent pipe, revealing an elbow and lateral pipe leading away from house into yard. Test results of gas indicate it is not pipeline gas. |

The vent was found to lead a few feet from the house, then lead down ~5 feet into the bottom of an overturned bucket set on top of a steel barrel. When the barrel was excavated and removed, a "cellar" about 2' in diameter, ~ 2' deep was found below the barrel with 2 3/8" tubing centered in it. It was partly filled w/ water and gas was bubbling up through the water. The tubing was not gassing. A measuring rod was lowered into cellar and went down ~12 feet before encountering obstruction. Area around well was excavated ~ 8' deep & supported. |
